EU helps attract more teachers to schools

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) – Many teaching positions in the state of Indiana remain vacant as schools begin.

The Education Department at Evansville University is working with local schools to help address the issue of teacher shortages now and in the future.

Currently, the Indiana Department of Education’s job bank still has opportunities in math, science, and English.

These are some of the most essential types of teachers to help give a student their best education.

The EU education chair told 14 News that the most important thing to change is teachers’ salaries.

The university says it is being creative in how it attracts more people to the teaching profession, ranging from a reduction in tuition fees for their transition into an educational program to offering scholarships for minorities in education.

If you are looking to change careers and have considered teaching, UE advises you to go for it.

The rewards of helping a child succeed are endless.

“Think about it, people who come in, they already have a solid background in math, if you’re going to be a math teacher, or if you already have a solid background in English, then you are in a position to pass this licensing exam. ‘State then state allows you to transition to a teaching permit and you can be hired at local schools,’ said Dr Sharon Gieselmann, president of the EU School of Education.

The EU Transition to Education program is 17 credit hours and can usually be completed in one calendar year.

EU claims that 100% of its graduates work in the field of education or in higher education.

To apply for the Transition to Teaching Program, all you need is a resume and information about the degree you already have.
