Shamrock Series returns to Chicago | News | Notre-Dame news


After a two-year hiatus, the University of Notre Dame Shamrock Series football game returns this weekend when the Fighting Irish travel to Chicago to face the University of Wisconsin on Saturday, September 25 at Soldier Field. The weekend features more than a game, as fans will have the opportunity to participate in a number of events including a Mass at Old St. Patrick Catholic Church, a community service project, several roundtables. academic and Fan Fest activities.

Events are open to the public free of charge, although some require prior online registration. The Hammes Notre Dame bookstore will also be present at the Westin Chicago River North hotel from Thursday at noon until Saturday noon. Face masks are mandatory during indoor events.

Here’s a full list of times and locations for Shamrock series events. The times shown are Central Daylight Saving Time:

Thursday 23 September

  • Noon8 p.m. – Opening of the Hammes Notre Dame bookstore (Westin River North).

Friday September 24

  • 8h0010 p.m. – Opening of the Hammes Notre Dame bookstore (Westin River North).
  • 10:3011:30 am – “The Convergence of Industry 4.0 and Artificial Intelligence: A New Innovation Ecosystem in Notre Dame” (Westin River North, Jackson Park room). Leaders from the university’s new engineering innovation hub, iNDustry Labs and regional industry to discuss how Notre Dame is improving student education in innovation and manufacturing while reaching out to regional entities to establish mutually beneficial partnerships. The panel discussion will include Thomas Fuja, professor of electrical engineering and faculty director of iNDustry Labs; Daryl Peterson, associate professor of practice and managing director of the Engineering Innovation Hub; Gary Neidig, president of Indiana Technology and Manufacturing Companies; and David Go, professor and chair of the aerospace and mechanical engineering department.
  • Noon1:00 p.m. – “The Convergence of Industry 4.0 and Artificial Intelligence: A New Innovation Ecosystem in Notre Dame” (Westin River North, Jackson Park room). A panel of experts from the Faculty of Notre-Dame will discuss the future of manufacturing and the role that artificial intelligence will play. Notre Dame’s research which accelerates these developments will be highlighted. The panel discussion will include Nitesh Chawla, Frank M. Freimann professor of computer science and engineering and founding director of the Lucy Family Institute for Data and Society; Robert Landers, professor of advanced manufacturing; Tengfei Luo, professor of aerospace and mechanical engineering; and David Go, professor and director of the aerospace and mechanical engineering department.
  • 12:30 p.m.3 p.m. – The Notre Dame Alumni Association and the Notre Dame Club of Chicago will participate in a service opportunity at the Mission of Our Lady of the Angels in West Humboldt Park. Participants aged 7 and over are welcome. The mission is completing major construction and renovation projects, and volunteers will be on hand to help clean up and prepare the spaces for their end use. There will be a variety of projects available. Face masks will be mandatory for everyone inside. Bus transportation, departing at 12:10 pm, will be available from the Westin River North Hotel. Registration is required and available in line.
  • 1:302:30 p.m. – “Ripe for rivalry? weRelations with China under the Biden administration ”(Westin River North, Jackson Park Room). This event will include a discussion on the United StatesChina Relations featuring former diplomat and think tank chairman Ambassador Ivo Daalder, business leaders Girish Rishi and Leo Melamed and renowned strategic analyst Notre Dame Professor Eugene Gholz. The panel will be moderated by Michael Desch, Professor Packey J. Dee of Notre Dame of International Relations and Director Brian and Jeannelle Brady of Notre Dame International Security Center.
  • 34:00 PM – “The College of Sciences Presents: Galactic Winds in the Windy City, Identifying Local to Global ‘Win-Win’ Solutions for Human Health and Sustainability, and Drug Discovery at Notre Dame: Fighting against cancer, Alzheimer’s disease and other neurodegenerative diseases ”(Westin River North, Jackson Park room). This presentation will include a series of short discussions led by Notre Dame faculty, which will highlight hot topics affecting us locally, regionally and globally. The panel will include Chris Howk, professor of physics; Nicolas Lehner, teacher-researcher in physics; Jason Rohr, Professor of Biological Sciences Ludmilla F., Stephen J. and Robert T. Galla and Chairman of the Department of Biological Sciences; and Brian Blagg, Charles Huisking professor of chemistry and biochemistry and director of the Warren Family Research Center for Drug Discovery and Development. The new Dean of the William K. Warren Foundation of the College of Sciences, Santiago Schnell, will deliver the keynote address.

Saturday September 25

  • 711 a.m. – Irish Fan Fest (Stadium Green to Soldier Field). This familyThis friendly gathering will feature the Notre Dame Marching Band, Cheerleaders and Leprechaun and the Irish Marching Band Shannon Rovers.
  • 8:00 a.m. (Old St. Patrick Catholic Church) – Mass with the President of the University Rev. John I. Jenkins, SCC, as celebrant and homilist.
  • 8h00Noon – Opening of the Hammes Notre Dame bookstore (Westin River North).
