Obituary of Alexander Barna (1930 – 2021) – Township of Cranberry, PA


Alexander “Al” Barna, 91, of Cranberry Township, peacefully reunited with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, August 26, 2021, surrounded by his family.
Al was born May 29, 1930 in Howland, Ohio, the son of the late John and Anna Pawelchak Barna.
Al graduated from Howland High School in 1948.
After high school, Al entered the service of the United States Army on June 15, 1951 and proudly served his country during the Korean conflict.
After returning from the war, Al attended Youngstown State University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering in 1958. He began his career with the Army Corps of Engineers in 1958 and retired after 31 years of dedicated service in 1989. He was also a member of the board of directors of the Cranberry Township Water Authority for 35 years.
Al liked to go to the church of St. Peter’s Reformed Church in Zelienople.
He was an active member and former commander of Cranberry VFW Post 879.
Above all, Al enjoyed spending time with his family and his faithful companions, Rusty and Paige.
Al is survived by his wife of 62 years, Juanita E. Brockway Barna, whom he married on August 29, 1959; his two daughters, Deborah J. Moran (Rich) and Elaine K. Ray (Darrell); her son, Alex D. Barna (Amy); her grandchildren, Ryan Moran, Victoria Reagle, Rebekah Conville, Katrina Sheerer, Anna Stoffel and Alexander Barna; and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Al was predeceased by his brothers, Steve Barna, Gerald Barna and Paul Barna; and two sisters, Olga Atkins and Jenny Smuke.
BARNA – A service of life celebration for Alexander “Al” Barna, who passed away on Thursday, August 26, 2021, will be held at 11 am Wednesday at St. Peter’s Reformed Church, 320 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople, with the Reverend James R. Bertoti officiating.
Military honors will take place immediately after service.
Al will be buried privately at Pinewood Memorial Gardens in Cranberry Township.
Funeral arrangements have been made with Boylan Funeral Home, 324 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople.
Memorial donations can be made in Al’s honor to St. Peter’s Reformed Church or to the Cranberry VFW Post 879.
