Alamo Colleges District awards $ 15.4 million in federal emergency aid grants

To help students who have been negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, Alamo Colleges have distributed more than $ 15.4 million in federal emergency aid grants to 13,736 students in the District of Alamo colleges.

“Federal emergency funds provided to Alamo Colleges District for Student Emergency Assistance have been critical in helping our students and their families,” said Alamo Colleges Chancellor Dr. Mike Flores .

“We have witnessed great resilience and perseverance from our students over the past 18 months. While the pandemic is not over, our mission continues to be to provide support to all of our students and remove any barriers that may prevent them from pursuing higher education. “, he added.

Students receiving Pell Grants during the fall 2021 semester are eligible to receive this one-time distribution ranging from $ 600 to $ 2,000 per student based on information provided on their FAFSA. Any student who has not received a distribution is still eligible to apply for federal emergency aid grants through the district’s Student Emergency Aid web page.

Grants are awarded on a case-by-case basis taking into account several factors. The amount a student can receive in scholarship will be determined based on the number of applications received, the availability of funds and the specific needs presented in the application.

Students who have not registered for fall 2021 courses still have time to register. Registration is open for the 14-week Start II trimester, which begins September 7, and Fall Flex II, an 8-week session that begins October 18.

Alamo Colleges also provide robust support services to help students continue their educational journey. This includes everything from help with course registration to academic councils, free tech resources, advocacy services like pantries and help with rent and utilities, and more.

In Alamo College District, high quality education and affordable costs provide exceptional value to students and alumni who greatly contribute to the economy and culture of our community. For more information, visit www.alamo.edu.
